The Ultimate Guide to E-Liquids

Jan 09, 2025 • 2 min read

Do you know what’s in the e-liquid you vape? This guide covers everything you need to know about e-liquids, from their ingredients to how they work, helping you choose the right one for your expectations.

What is e-liquid?

E-liquid, also known as vape liquid, is the liquid used in vaping devices. When activated, the heating element heats the liquid (to a temperature generating an aerosol) that is inhaled.

What’s in e-liquid?

Vaping liquid contains vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG), nicotine (except in 0 nicotine vapes) and flavour.

Under the Vaping Products Reporting Regulations, manufacturers and importers in Canada must provide vaping product sales and ingredients information to Health Canada1.

PG:VG ratios vary in e-liquids which impacts the vaping experience depending on consumer preferences. You can learn more in our guide: Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) in e-liquids.

How does e-liquid work?

When you activate a vaping device, the e-liquid is heated by the device’s heating element. As the e-liquid heats, it turns into vapour. This vapour is then inhaled, delivering flavour and nicotine (no nicotine from nicotine-free e-liquids) through the mouthpiece.

Nicotine levels: Choosing a strength

E-liquids come in various nicotine strengths, typically ranging from 0mg (nicotine-free) to 20mg/mL (the maximum allowed in Canada).

E-liquid strength regulations in Canada

The Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations (NCVPR) establish a maximum nicotine concentration of 20 mg/mL for vaping products manufactured or imported for sale in Canada1.

Propylene glycol (PG) to vegetable glycerin (VG)

The PG:VG ratio depends on your preferences and on the type of vape device you have. Vuse pods have a 50:50 or 60:40 ratio. E-liquids for open-system devices can come in different consistencies.

E-liquid flavours

Vuse pods come in a wide range of flavours suited to different tastes. From tobacco and mint to fruit and berry flavours. As an existing adult nicotine user, experiment to find the flavour that suits you best.

At Vuse, we’re committed to providing high-quality, legally compliant vaping products. Always purchase your e-liquids from reputable sources and follow the label guidelines for use and storage.
