This process is called grading. It’s a crucial choice when curating taste. Providing the blenders the taste blocks from which to create blends. This process is undertaken by leaf blending experts, who are masters in their craft, as they examine and set standards for the colour, aroma and texture of each packed leaf grade with meticulous attention.

Capturing the character through extraction The next step is a multi-stage extraction process, and all about digging deep into the leaf to pull out all those distinctive tobacco notes* in pure liquid form. 

We start preparing the leaf by opening up the structure to increase its surface area, and then draw out the flavour* using special techniques that capture the full taste profile. 

We extract the cleanest, smoothest notes from the leaf and apply warmth to release hidden flavours*, aromas, and trapping the vapour and cooling it to build depth and body to the taste. A gentle flow of water goes through the leaves, gradually absorbing the full character in a steady process.

An essence that’s processed and ready Once the essence is captured it's time we process the extract, using heat as a gentle catalyst, we transform the raw essence into something fuller and more expressive, using different methods to reveal unique facets of the extract. With a little patience, and a lot of precision, the flavours are allowed to deepen and soften until they reach their fullest potential. This brings out the nutty, woody notes that add body and warmth. And now we have our concentrated flavour extracts, processed and ready for the final blend.
