Jan 15, 2025 • 3 min read
So you're looking for a smoke-free alternative, but you don't know what nicotine strength to choose. Knowing how to navigate nicotine strength in e-liquids and disposable vapes can help you manage your consumption.
Read on to learn more about the nicotine content of Vuse e-liquids and disposable vapes.
What is nicotine?
Nicotine is an ingredient in many e-liquids and disposable vapes (nicotine-free e-liquids are also available).
In Canada, vaping products are regulated by Health Canada.
What do the numbers on e-liquids mean?
The numbers on e-liquid bottles can indicate several things, including, but not limited to, the concentration of nicotine. Legal vaping substances now contain 0 to 20 mg/ml of nicotine3.
12mg
This number means there are 12 milligrams (mg) of nicotine per millilitre (mL) of e-liquid (12 mg/mL).
20mg
20 mg/mL is the maximum nicotine concentration allowed in vaping products in Canada.
Some Vuse e-liquids list nicotine strength as a percentage. For example, 1.8% is equivalent to 20 mg/mL.
Choosing a nicotine strength
The Nicotine Concentration in Vaping Products Regulations (NCVPR) establish a maximum nicotine concentration of 20 mg/mL for vaping products manufactured or imported for sale in Canada2.
Choosing nicotine strength is about your previous experience and expectations. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. You can adjust your nicotine consumption as needed.
